Taming of the Shrew

In my opinion Kate was a complete brat at the beginning of the play, ultimately this was a result of how her father raised and treated her and Bianca.  Because her father chose a favorite child, Bianca, Kate thought she needed to act like a psycho in order to get attention.  Then Petruchio comes along, in my opinion he is a somewhat greedy person because he was seeking a wife in order to increase his wealth.  When learns of what he will receive if he marries Kate he decides to take on the task of taming Kate. He is probably able to see the source of why she acts like a brat and thinks that it will be a some what small task, considering the reward he will receive.  Bianca aka goody two shoes is quite the con artist. She is always sure to say what her father wants to hear and do as her father wants.. She does this in order to remain the favorite.  Lucentio is a love struck fool. He is willing to do what ever it takes to win the hand of a women he hardly knows. I think that Shakespeare gave him that personality because, well someone has to be the love struck fool.

I think that Kate's view of marriage was a Christian one because the way that she described marriage was very similar to how the Bible describes marriage. 

3.
I  think it is rather obvious the Petruchio tamed Kate and did a very good job of it. Based on the way the last scene was depicted in the movie I think the last scene was not a private joke between Petruchio and Kate because Petruchio acted nervous when he sent for Kate.

I think when Benedick challenges Claudio to a dual it shows that he is a honorable man, and that he thinks that Claudio overacted and that he shouldn't have shamed Hero public.

I would say that Claudio has some remorse for what he did to Hero, after he hears of her innocence. However I don't think he felts as remorseful as he should have. If you consider that Claudio thought Hero was dead at the time he discovered her innocence then you should conclude that Claudio did not give a satisfactory confession.

It is important for Claudio to take his wedding vows before he sees the bride so that he can show that he is marrying whoever Leonato and Antonio want him to.

Claudio is violently angry at Hero because he thought, in good faith that she was pure.  However after the night before when he thought he saw he cheating on him he probably felt betrayed and scammed.

I think that Claudio was not angry with Hero's supposed lover because he probably didn't see him to be at fault. He did see Hero to be at fault because he saw her to be prostituting her self.  I think this shows that Claudio loves her as an object, if its blemished he no longer  loves it.

Beatrice is not another Lady Macbeth because she is not a deranged psychopath.  The only similarity is that they both wanted some one to kill an individual.  Beatrice asked Benedick to kill Claudio because he had attacked Hero's honor and assaulted her physically.  When Lady Macbeth told Macbeth to kill Duncan it was solely for selfish personal gain. 

Much Ado About Nothing: L2 TQ8

In (3.2.1-4) Don Pedro tells Claudio that he will be leaving to go to Aragon after Claudio's wedding.  Claudio is quick to say that he wants to go with Don Pedro, leaving his new wife.  However Don Pedro tells him that he must stay with his wife.  Because of how Claudio acted in that scene I conclude that Claudio may love Hero, but he loves her more as an object and not a person.

Much Ado About Nothing: L1, TQ4

In (1.1.121-151) we see the first argument between Benedick and Beatrice.  In mine own/No Fear Shakespeare's words it went something like this.  Benedick-(talking about Hero) If Leonato is her father im sure she would not want her face to look like his.  Beatrice-I amazed you are still talking. No one is listening to you.  Benedick- Oh look its my dear Lady Disdain.  Aren't you dead yet.  Beatrice- How could disdain die when you are here.  When you are around even lady courtesy turns into lady disdain.  Benedick- That makes lady courtesy a traitor. All women except you love me.  And its to I have no heart and love no one. Beatrice- That's a good thing for women. Or ells they would troubled with a nasty suitor. I thank God I do not need love. I would rather hear my dog bark at a crow than hear a man say he loves me.  Benedick- I hope you keep feeling that way or ells some poor man will get his face scratched up. Beatrice- If he had a face like yours a good scratching wouldn't make it worse. Benedick- Well you are teaching me like a parrot. Beatrice- I would rather be a squawking bird than a beast like you. Benedick- I wish my horse was as fast and tireless as your mouth, enough I'm done arguing. Beatrice- You always slip out of arguments like this. I know that from old times.   

L. 4: T.Q. 3

Macbeth treats his servants like trash, even when they have done nothing wrong.  In (5.3.11-21) he ridicules one of his servant's white face, calling him a, "...white-faced fool." for no reason at all.  Macbeth also seems more worried about the servants white face than the English army that is approaching.  This fits with Angus's comment about Macbeth's ill-fitting robes because if Macbeth could truly fill his kingly duties that Angus describes as royal robes then he would be more worried about the English army and he would treat his servants better.

Thought Question 4&7

Question 4:
When Lennox and some other Lord are discussing Banquo's death they say that, "Banquo walked to late..." which is why he got killed.  Lennox then says, "...you may say, if't please you, Fleance killed(Banquo), for Fleance fled(the scene)."  Duncan and Banquo's deaths are similar because they are both killed in the middle of the night.

Question 7:
"From this moment the very firstling of my heart shall be the firstling of my hand."  When Macbeth says this he means that, from now on as soon as he decides to do something he's going to do it immediately.  I think this shows that Macbeth's view of manhood has become more like his wife's; now he will do what ever it takes to get what he wants.

Question 1

Duncan says that Inverness castle is a pleasant place where the air is sweet, "...unto our gentle senses."  I don't see how this really says anything about Duncan's judgment.  Banquo is quick to add to and support Duncan's praise of the castle.  This implies that Banquo really does agree with Duncan about the castle being a pleasant place or it implies that Banquo is trying to gain favor with Duncan by agreeing with him.

Question 7

What is sacrilege?  Sacrilege is violating or misusing what is regarded as sacred.  Killing a king or Duncan is sacrileges because kings were seen by most as great and sacred.  Macbeth's sin of killing Duncan and Adams sin of eating the forbidden fruit are sacrileges because they both violated something that was sacred.

Review Question 8:Distracted

Banquo says that Macbeth is distracted because he is not used to his new titles, like he would be unused to new clothes.  However the true source of Macbeth's distraction, is thoughts of being king. 

Review Question 1: The Witches

I would say that the witches want to meet with Macbeth so that they can get him to feeling power hungry.  They do this by telling him some major events that will take place in his life.  Once the first event takes place Macbeth feels like he must make the other events happen immediately, leading to his death.  So I would say that the witches bring on his death, but then again maybe not because it sure seems like Macbeth and his wife are quite evil.  He might have done the same exact thing even if he didn't meet the witches.
